Next Global Hot Thing 2018: Auterion – Digital Economy Award

President of the jury: Pascal Kaufmann (author), held at the Gala Night by Robin Guldener (jury member)

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, dear candidates of the hottest category of the 2018 Digital Economy Award, “The Next Global Hot Thing”. On behalf of the jury president and as a jury member and entrepreneur of a tech startup, it is a special honor for me to honor one of the most successful Swiss startups with the highest global breakthrough potential this evening.

“The Next Global Hot Thing” is also the only category for which one could not apply, and we owe the nominations to numerous scouting partners from the university environment, the tech scene, associations and networks from all over Switzerland. In the last round of the Top 3 the companies Auterion, DeepCode and Yova made it, all top startups with high global breakthrough potential. We evaluated criteria such as international ambition, existing customers, previous and projected growth and also the background of the founder team, the access to financing and the virality and scalability of the business model.

Therefore, I am particularly pleased to award the prize to the team at Auterion for the first time in the new category “The Next Global Hot Thing”!

Lorenz Meier completed his doctorate in drone architecture at ETH Zurich and developed one of the first open source platforms for drones in 2008. In 2017, he was nominated by the prestigious MIT Technology Review in the US as one of the 35 global innovators under 35. Kevin Sartori, also worked at the ETH Zurich on the same drone project and lived for several years in the Bay Area near Silicon Valley, he holds a master in robotics. Founded in 2018, Auterion completed a USD 10million round of financing with some of Europe’s and US’s most respected investors just a few months ago, with the latter being chosen very strategically by Auterion.

Auterion builds complete operating systems (OS) and works very successfully to establish it as the global standard for enterprise drones.

Already more than 1 million drones are operated by the technology of Auterion, whereby a radical open source and community approach is pursued. The business model is based on an innovative service model, while the location Switzerland is ideally positioned in the field of drone-tech. The combination of top Swiss know-how and entrepreneurship, the absolutely scalable opensource model and the international team of top talents from all over the world make Auterion ideal to become “The Next Global Hot Thing”.

In the name of the Digital Economy Award and myself on behalf of everyone present, I wish Auterion every success.
